The German railway carrier Deutsche Bahn has sent generators to Ukrzaliznytsia to establish work in the conditions of electricity shortage caused by the Russian shelling of energy infrastructure.

The first batch of 63 generators was sent before Christmas from the railway station in Hanover to Kyiv, and in January, Deutsche Bahn plans to transfer another 325 smaller emergency generators. The transfer is a donation to Ukrzaliznytsia.

As Deutsche Bahn CEO Richard Lutz explained, the generators will provide electricity and heating at railway stations and repair plants, as well as be used directly on trains.

325 emergency power generators, which Ukrainian Railways (Ukrzaliznytsia) will receive in January, will be used to provide electricity to passengers and workplaces of Ukrainian railway workers.

In September, Deutsche Bahn and Ukrzaliznytsia signed a Memorandum of Understanding and agreed on a long-term partnership. First of all, it is about assistance in the post-war restoration of railways and modernization of cargo corridors and terminals.

As of mid-November, Germany has delivered at least 2,430 power generators to Ukraine in response to the destruction of infrastructure by Russia, and later announced new aid for Ukraine to mitigate difficulties after widespread damage to critical infrastructure by Russian missile strikes.
