Derby has been chosen as the location for Great British Railways' national headquarters, as the Department for Transport announced that it ranked first in both the evaluation process and public voting. Cities such as Birmingham, Crewe, Doncaster, Newcastle, and York were shortlisted among the applicants. Derby won on six main criteria: level, connectivity, opportunities for GBR, value for money, heritage, and public support. In total, Derby received 45,600 votes.
