ÖBB Rail Cargo Group and STRABAG SE, Austria's largest construction firm, are joining forces to create temporary housing near the earthquake disaster area in the Adıyaman region of Turkey. With millions of people urgently needing housing, food, medicine, and hygiene products, the companies are addressing one of the most significant challenges—transporting relief supplies to those in need.

Klemens Haselsteiner, CEO of STRABAG, emphasized the need for rapid direct relief measures, leading to the idea of supplying and erecting a container village with the Rail Cargo Group. The collaboration will result in a container village that provides temporary accommodation for around 30 families. A special train operated by the Rail Cargo Group will transport 30 STRABAG office containers, three sanitary containers, and additional relief items, such as furniture and hygiene products, to Turkey.

Covering a 2,800-kilometer route from Bratislava to Gölbaşı in Adıyaman, the 220-tonne special train will pass through Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, and Bulgaria before reaching the Turkish border. Turkish State Railways will then take over for the final leg of the journey. Two STRABAG employees will coordinate and oversee the installation and infrastructural connection of the container village.

Imre Kovács, a member of the Rail Cargo Group's Board of Management, emphasized the importance of providing transport and logistics services to assist people in emergency situations. The container village is expected to be ready for occupancy approximately two weeks after the containers' arrival and will be used for at least a year until new housing is constructed in the region.
