A decade at the top comes to a close as Alstom reshuffles its leadership. The group is handing over to Martin Sion at a moment when scale, execution and global competition matter more than ever.
Alstom has officially appointed Martin Sion as its new Chief Executive Officer. He will replace Henri Poupart-Lafarge’s decade-long tenure at the helm of the company. The transition comes at a crucial time for the global rail sector, as manufacturers face increasing pressure to deliver on large-scale contracts, drive innovation, and support the decarbonisation of transport.
The Board of Directors confirmed that Poupart-Lafarge chose not to seek another term, closing a chapter that reshaped Alstom into one of the world’s leading rail players.
A Decade of Growth and Consolidation
Since taking over in 2016, Poupart-Lafarge oversaw a period of rapid expansion, industrial consolidation and portfolio growth, transforming Alstom into a significantly larger and more competitive company. Revenues climbed from around €6 billion to €18.5 billion, while profitability remained among the strongest in the sector.
A defining milestone of his leadership was the integration of Bombardier Transportation, which strengthened Alstom’s global footprint and positioned it as a key player across multiple markets. The company also built a reputation for long-term partnerships and large-scale project delivery, reinforcing its standing in Europe and beyond.
