Alstom has announced the appointment of Jörg Nikutta as Managing Director for Norway, in addition to his existing leadership role in Denmark. Nikutta will oversee key projects, including the modernization of Norway’s railway network through ERTMS implementation and train fleet upgrades.

Nikutta steps into the role at an important time for Norway’s railway sector, as the country continues investing in modern rail infrastructure and sustainable transport solutions.

"Alstom has grown extensively in Norway over the past years, and our local commitment is strong," said Jörg Nikutta. "Norway is known for its sharp focus on sustainability, and I look forward to continuing our support with sustainable transportation solutions. Together with the Alstom teams, we will work to make the railway network more efficient and reliable."

Nikutta replaces Carl Åge Bjørgan, who has led Alstom Norway since 2014 and played a key role in expanding Alstom’s presence in the country.

Overseeing Norway’s Major Rail Modernization Projects

As Managing Director, Nikutta will be responsible for overseeing several major Alstom projects in Norway, including:

  • Equipping approximately 380 trains with Alstom’s onboard European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS) to enhance digital signaling and safety.
  • Delivery of Coradia Nordic regional trains (N05 and N06), strengthening regional mobility.
  • Upgrading 36 Class 72 train sets for Norske Tog, ensuring continued reliability and service efficiency.
  • Expanding Alstom’s Service and Signaling business, supporting Norway’s transition to a more modern and sustainable rail network.

These projects align with Norway’s commitment to green mobility and infrastructure upgrades.

Jörg Nikutta: A Strong Leadership Background in Rail

Nikutta brings over 20 years of experience in rail transport and management. Since joining Alstom in 2017, he has held senior leadership roles, including Managing Director for Austria before assuming his current role in Denmark. Prior to Alstom, Nikutta spent nearly 15 years at Deutsche Bahn in Germany, where he held several key management positions.

With rail modernization at the heart of European transport policy, Alstom’s ongoing investments in digital rail solutions and sustainability will benefit from Nikutta’s expertise in navigating complex infrastructure projects and implementing next-generation rail technologies.
