40th type Prima T8 AZ8A heavy freight locomotive arrived on February 9th, 2022, at Azerbaijan Railways (ADY). And as is the custom in Alstom they celebrated the final delivery. It was the first export contract for Alstom’s Kazakhstan branch and should help boost the Trans-Caspian railway corridor.
“These locomotives play a key role in boosting the freight transportation capacity within Azerbaijan, and, moreover, they contribute to the ambitious goals of increasing the transit potential of the Trans-Caspian railway corridor,” Kanat Alpysbayev, Managing Director of Alstom in Western and Central Asia.
This last piece of the puzzle arrived based on a contract signed in 2014 between ADY and Alstom for 288 million euros for 50 electric locomotives. 40 Prima T8 AZ8A and 10 PRIMA M4 AZ4A. It has been designed for operations even in harsh environments from -25°C to 50°C. Its modular design allows for low lifecycle costs, minimum maintenance, and high reliability.
